Attitudes & Intentions

What are your intentions? Do you even know?!

This is what determines intention:
-attitude toward performing a certain behavior
-normative, or social, pressure
-one's belief in having the necessary skills to perform

So, let's relate that back to fitness; back to crossfit:
-what's your attitude toward training? Do you believe it's going to benefit you? Serve the purpose you originally had when you found it?
-Do you have the RIGHT kind of social pressure/ accountability driving you?
-Are you a builder or a wrecker? Do you say "that was hard. I sucked it up. I can't wait to try again tomorrow" OR do you say "I suck. I'm so bad at _______"

That last point is the deal maker or breaker. Do you shake your head 'yes' or 'no' during a workout?! Attitude! I've heard it said that the more you perceive that you can perform the behavior (i.e. have the necessary skills and abilities), even in the face of obstacles, the STRONGER your efficacy in performing the behavior becomes.

Attitude = (belief that performing will induce the outcome)(evaluation of the outcome)

JOY and the Love for NIKE

So my friend Aaron and I have been training together for the new year. Due to my injured reserve status, we have been strictly following the performance menu @ Catalyst Athletics for the last 4 weeks (by the way, can't say enough good things about Greg & the programming). Since Aaron is ramping up for the fittest games challenge in March and I have signed up for the Crossfit Games Qualifier, we have decided to jack up the work capacity after a periodization of dynamic power and strength. Aaron came up with a great idea that really appeals to the competitor in both of us (this is what his email said):

WEEKLY SERIES METCON BATTLE
-5 Workouts a Week
-Best 3 out of 5  gets a point for the week.
-Whoever gets the most points by april 30th gets to pick out a pair of NIKE's on a super secret employee website
-10 Weeks; 10 Points
(*Handicap for Aaron since SP has been in the game longer)
YOU IN?

Definitely. Those in my inner circle know of my inclinations for Nike running shoes! Is this kind of reward necessary? Heck No! Cave and I would still be working til snot came out of our noses, but should we do it? Heck YES! Training should be fun. You should ENJOY training; ENJOY the competition - the pursuit of excellence.

So...do you ENJOY your training? What is it that makes it ENJOYable?  Got a news flash for you: those that don't find a way to enjoy it are not the ones that stick with it. They are not the ones you want to ask, "so what do you do?"

The PEP RALLY

Got a chance to head on down to Austin for the Affiliate Gathering. This picture is from the Fight Gone Bad fundraiser Crossfit Central did last September. Can I get a "Core to Extremity" Violation please?!
It was great to be down there. Got to catch up with some friends, got to meet some new ones.  The thing I think that Sam and I both realized is that we got it GOOD. Let me explain. We have a really fantastic group of guys and gals. We have a building that has character and plenty of room to facilitate the training that we love. I feel great about the coaching, programming, and level of training our guys get. And I love Crossfit. It is just the coolest thing. Results driven, counter-culture, ego-crushing, ...just fun. My brother and I really want to have that old school feel of crossfit at CFDC. Crossfit when there was a physical "HQ" you could go to, with dudes like Brendan Gilliam on the main page. When it wasn't about making money or the games, but about being way different than everyone else. Sam and I are hoping that's how our little box will be...
